THE IMPEACHMENT OF JESUS

The first article of impeachment accuses him of blasphemy. Blasphemy is usurping the honor and glory that belongs to God alone. Jesus has claimed for himself the rights and privileges that belong only to the Holy One. He has made himself equal to God.

I am Caiaphas, the high priest. We are gathered on this sad and solemn occasion to do something which we don’t want to do, which we wish we didn’t have to do, but something necessary for the good of our nation and according to the law of the land – to exercise our solemn and sacred duty of oversight and bring articles of impeachment against Jesus of Nazareth.

I am Caiaphas, the High Priest. We have been making a strong case for the impeachment of Jesus of Nazareth. Indeed, the evidence against him is substantial and irrefutable. We have brought against him the first article of impeachment: the charge of blasphemy.

Thus far we have brought against this man Jesus of Nazareth, one who regards himself to be our king having authority over us, three articles of impeachment. The first was for blasphemy, taking upon himself the honor that belongs to God alone.
