PRELIMINARY JOB DESCRIPTION FOR OUR SAVIOR DIRECTOR OF PARISH MUSIC

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

CHURCH:
• Prepare orders of worship for all services, in coordination with Pastor
• Plan and perform or provide music for all services
• Serve as principal organist/pianist
• Direct adult choir and praise band
• Oversee and work with volunteer vocalists and instrumentalists
• Oversee, maintain, and develop A/V technologies, train and recruit operators
• Arrange for organ subs/contract additional instrumentalists, as needed
• Attend staff and council/voters meetings
SCHOOL:
• Teach Jr. and Sr. High school choirs
• Provide musical leadership for chapel services and other events (graduation, etc.…)
• Provide A/V support for events in the gym
• Attend teacher meetings and other required events (open house, etc.…)


POSSIBLE OPPORTUNITIES
Additional activities developed over the last few years, or considered for the future, as time and energy permit.

CHURCH:
• Direct youth band/music ensemble
• Direct folk/eclectic acoustic ensemble
• Direct men’s and women’s choir, as sub-groups within adult choir, used for recruitment
• Explore the development of new ensembles, such as a children’s choir, hand-bell choir, or other instrumental groups
SCHOOL:
• Teach courses in music theory, or music appreciation, if necessary to meet music requirement
• Direct after school chamber choir
• Coordinate music ensembles/soloists for chapel performances
• Coordinate student and ensemble participation in NYSSMA festivals
• Take chamber choir or other group on performance/music education trips
• Develop and train student leadership to assist with A/V support
